    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The environment is friendly and supportive and different aspects have been taken good care of. The company bus and travel allowance makes it easy to go to work every day. The lively and friendly atmosphere makes learning easy. I was allocated a specific project rather than just doing random support work. However, the support from HR is not as great as I expected.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My colleagues recognized my input and gave constructive feedback after my presentation. Also, the work is used in support of other projects so it is not a random piece of work created just for the internship period. In addition, I was invited to other team event, such as dinner, which helps me bonded with the team.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My line manager is really supportive and friendly. I was moved with her time and effort in preparation for my internship. She helped me set clear and structured objective for the internship. She is always available if I need any help and provide useful contact person if I need extra information. She is humorous and kind as well.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Not too busy and not too bored. I know what I am going to do everyday and my target are within the reach. I am busier before the deadline as expected but I do not need to work extra hours. I am free some days but I am able to find materials to read then.

    5/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given two mainly projects, with different focused. The first project is communication plan for the team and it also helped me to understand how the team works and how the company works. The second project is about Local Authorities, with much technical information. The two projects are complementary in nature and give a good sense of accomplishment.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • This job is very different from my degree. Hence, I find the transferable skills most useful. I also learned many soft skills from my colleagues, such as effective communication, structured working style and proactive attitude. These skills are for life. I also learn the importance of health and safety and correct siting habit.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very very Fun! We are a really lively team and are direct about comments. We provide constructive feedback for work and also share our dinner plans. The atmosphere is lively and cheerful, with lots of laughs and fun. Also, everyone is really supportive and willing to answer questions.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very organized. The rest of the team discuss and design projects for me before the beginning of the internship. Clear objective, useful contacts and manageable timeline was prepared and discussed in the first week. My line manager also helped me book introduction session with everyone from the team. During the internship, there is weekly 121 meeting with the line manager, where we reflect on the progress and adjust the timeline accordingly.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The company organized a team day for all summer placement and year placement 西瓜视频s, which allow them to know each other, interact and learn some soft skills. There is training session on Health and Safety, Code of Conduct and Desk Sitting Test, although the company does not provide any training session particular to my role.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Working from home

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The graduate scheme looks great, although the company does not sponsor visa for international 西瓜视频s so future employment opportunity is pessimistic for me.

    3/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • I did keep in touch with some placement 西瓜视频s through emails and Facebook. However, since placement 西瓜视频s may be based in different locations and the sense of community is not strong, there is not much social scene amongst fellow placement 西瓜视频s. I did joined a farewell dinner for one of my colleagues, which is nice and interesting. However, there is no regular social scene among the colleagues.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living in Nottingham city centre is more expensive than I expected. The food in the canteen is subsidized but still not as cheap as expected.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I am not very active about Nightlife.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Nottingham is a nice city to visit and to live in, with beautiful Newstead Abbey, busy city centre and large recreation ground. Following my colleague's advice, I also visited the Nottingham University and cinemas. There are also a lot of pokemons and poke stops around. The trams is convenient and public transport is quite reliable.
