The Role
Very nice atmosphere at the office/site. Other employees made time to work with me and helped me to champion my project. I saw the outcome of the work I was responsible for what gave me a sense of achievement.
Whenever I was stuck my colleagues were always supportive of me. I was able to present my findings and I had feedback from them.
I was given a clear aim from the beginning. As the placement progressed I was able to challenge my goals and was given all the support required if my ideas were justifiable. However, a lot of the time I had to motivate myself and set goals that directed me to that aim myself.
My project often depended on availability of my colleagues. Therefore, sometimes it was very busy and some other times it was not busy at all. However, I always managed to find some work for myself.
I was given a high amount of responsibility. I was responsible for building screens supervising performance of a power station. In addition I conducted financial analysis of my Department's assets and came up with a strategy to recover costs through new assignment of charges to the engine running regime hours.
Skills I developed are more likely to help me with my future career rather than my studies. However, my experience with E.ON helped me to realise what career path I would like to take. Furthermore, it enabled me to develop a new, more industrial-specific perception on the University's curriculum.
