The Role
I enjoyed my internship more than I expected. I wasn't treated like an intern and felt very valued by my team. I feel as though I have learnt skills that will really aid me in my career, and have met people that have inspired me to achieve my career goals.
Whilst I was on my placement I was lucky enough to have a position become available within the team I was working in. My manager and team valued me enough to offer me the opportunity to fill the role whilst I was working for Costain. They really made me feel part of the team.
I felt as if I had the right balance of challenges and support throughout my placement with Costain. Any time I was unsure about anything, I felt comfortable to ask for help, and it was always given in a way that I would learn and benefit from.
I was very busy on a daily basis. If I ever finished my daily/weekly/monthly duties, I always had a side project that I was working on that wasn't related to my daily duties. This allowed me to expand my knowledge of the business and work on new skills.
I was given a lot of responsibility due to the role that I was given. My team relied on me to complete my duties, as well as people further out in the business asking for help or information.
My placement with Costain gave me a good grounding of knowledge for the career that I would like to go into in the future. It has also given me soft skills such as working 9-5 at university, and has given me the inspiration and confidence to achieve my career goals.
The Company
As I was based in the main office there was a very corporate atmosphere, but everyone was very friendly, approachable and happy to talk.

The Culture
There wasn't much of a social scene where I was based as it was the head office but I heard that in other offices and projects there was.
There wasn't much nightlife where I was based but as Costain has many offices all around the country, especially in London, there are many places that do.
There was an office football team and you can also use a day of work to take part in your choice of charity/community work.
