The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my experience on the Woolston waste water redevelopment project. I was surrounded by a great team and was given great opportunities to new experiences.
As my first experience on site it took a bit of time to adapt to my role. However after being shown what to do, and practising over the first few weeks I became much more confident with different tasks. So at first I potentially didn't feel valued but as I became more confident and the team became more confident in me I very much became part of the team.
The management team and supervisors were very approachable and made time for me checking that everything was going as it should.
Jobs were dependent on each day and what was required for the carpenters/ steel workers. So the business did vary. However in general I feel there was a good balance.
As I settled in within the first few weeks, I was given very little responsibilities. But as my skills developed and I became more confident I was given access to greater responsibilities.
It has given me a great insight into my future work prospects and has also given me key skills to feel comfortable on site working with other people/ professions.
The Company
There was a good atmosphere in the office with numerous individuals creating a funny and relaxing atmosphere. The general approachability of the people in the office also contributed to a good office atmosphere.
From the day I arrived, I was assigned to my team I would be working with and I could immediately get involved in activities that they would be doing.
The team obviously checked up on my progress and how I was feeling on site but let me be on site and gain a first hand experience more which I feel is how the placement should be run. I gained a lot more by being out on site rather than being in the office.
My good experience has meant the prospects of working for Costain in the future would be good.
The Culture
Not massively for the time I was there but I know it had been done on the site prior to my arrival.
I managed to stay at my rented house I was living in at university so this made costs a lot cheaper.
Good nightlife because of the good 西瓜视频 area.
Not massively to be honest.
