    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • As an insight into the working world within a large corporation it has been fantastic. Great team, friendly people and environment with responsibility and opportunities.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I always felt that people were willing to listen to your ideas and opinions. I was able to shape and develop projects proving that just because you were an undergrad did not mean your input was worth less.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Whenever I needed a helping hand or needed a question answering there were always people there to assist. However there wasn't much in terms of structured reviews of my performance.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • My role involved a core workload that would need to be completed monthly. However, this was not taxing enough to fill a full month. Fortunately I was given a number of projects through the year, one of which was particularly large that I used to fill my time. I simply went above and beyond developing these projects so as to have enough work as I prefer to be really busy. Even so, often I would have a week at the end of the month that was quiet.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I enjoyed responsibility. Within the first week, and throughout, I was working with and approving invoices that were 拢25m plus. Every month I would check and approve invoices cumulatively totalling over 拢3m. I was given projects to set up new models from scratch and was able to help shape both the calculations in both our teams model and in another teams. However, sometimes I felt that I could have been pushed even further.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The placement wasn't really relevant to my degree course. However, the knowledge of both the energy industry as well as general office environment behaviours and soft skill development was great.

    3/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Very friendly atmosphere. People were warm and always happy to talk with you about their role if you asked. I felt that there was a real collective feeling about members of the company. Within my own team, I really couldn't have asked for a better team. Extremely welcoming and I was made to feel like a proper member of the team. Although sometimes it could be a bit quiet!

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Well organised from my team. The work was handed over from the previous undergrad which i appreciated and was extremely helpful. A project idea had been formulated before I had begun which was also good.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was able to go on multiple trips out of the office to wind farms, see counterparties and also meet colleagues from other teams in other offices. This was one of the key things that I appreciated immensely. My line manager was always encouraging of these things. However, I did not go on any training courses as none really felt relevant - although I had been told that if I wanted to then the option was there.

    3/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • There is the opportunity to apply for a fast track onto the grad scheme. This involves an assessment centre. I was fortunate to be offered a letter of intent. Assuming that the budget for 2019 includes to scheme I applied for then I will be offered a contract. Assuming this happens I can't wait to go back!

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement 西瓜视频s/colleagues?
  • Undergrads were spread out geographically. We also didn't have many meetups through the year which was a shame.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Coventry isn't too expensive but also isn't anything to shout about.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Not great. However had I been based in Nottingham it would have been far better!

    2/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • There was weekly football with the graduates that I played (and with other members of the company that happened to be at the same time). Me and some members of the team went walking most lunchtime and sometimes there were pub lunches. Apart from not much.
