The Role
I really enjoyed my internship. It was something that was completely unrelated to my degree and it gave me a lot of knowledge around energy and politics as well as many skills. I really enjoyed the social office environment and the fact that I was able to connect with people from all parts of the business.
For this job I had to learn SQL but they gave me a small scale trial to do during my time here. However, once I had done that I was able to help colleagues in analysing data and really felt like I was helping and bringing value to them as a whole.
My line manager was always close by during my placement and made sure I stayed on track. The leadership team also pushed me to do experience things around the company and gave me support when I had questions. I was able to do presentations and lead team meetings all in my time here.
I had something to do every day. My line manager wasn't necessarily monitoring me but I was given tasks and goals to keep busy everyday quite easily. On top of that, I was able to talk to other people about their jobs an make myself busy when I wasn't and everyone was happy to make the time for me.
I was given responsibility for a whole trial in the debt collection process within my placement. This was a lot of responsibility as it was testing my solutions on real life customers to gain insights. I was also given responsibility in terms of the access I had to data and treating it in the right way.
It was a definite confidence boost in terms of me being able to apply my skills into both university and work life. I also developed a strong programming knowledge which will definitely assist me in technical roles I apply to in the future and the logical thinking skills are definitely a translatable skill.
The Company
The general atmosphere was extremely friendly and social. Anytime there was a query everyone was happy to help out and this was balanced with hard work and good results. Everyone was also very affectionate within the team in terms of caring about each others lives and even giving a nice card when one of them was getting married.
The HR dept made sure that the placement was very well organised so that managers could really organise the interns nicely and provide the best development opportunity. I was given a review every few weeks and the equipment was all organised for me. The only fault really is that IT was a nightmare but once through that everything was fine.
The firm definitely invested a lot of time from different employees in me. I was able to get a lot of experience from all of them. I was able to also attend a training course on personal development and leadership. I was also given some SQL training and any query I had they invested time in explaining it to me properly.

Really appealing! I am coming back for a summer placement next year and am looking forward to seeing what else I can learn about the company in a new role.
The Culture
There were community days between the undergrads so we were able to get to know each other. There was also a very nice canteen where we could all grab lunch as colleagues and drinks on Fridays.
Very cheap! It was in Nottingham so everything was much cheaper than I'm used to.
Didn't really go out...
Not really opportunities but a few activities. I enjoyed board game nights with some colleagues.
