The Role
My internship was enjoyable and I was fortunate to have the opportunity to learn a significant amount both about E.ON and the energy market during my 10 week summer internship. E.ON had a friendly atmosphere and I was able to get involved in various projects during my short time with the company.
I did feel valued by the colleagues at E.ON. From the beginning of my placement I was treated like a significant member of the team and was able to voice my opinion in meetings and seek advice on my project. The strategy team and other interns were very friendly and supportive.
My team and manager on the Strategy department were extremely helpful in supporting my project. I had regular meetings with both my team and line manager to discuss the progress of my project and I was able to ask any additional questions on areas of uncertainty within the energy market. I also had the opportunity to arrange meetings with people outside the strategy team to develop a wider understanding of E.ON as a whole.
Being assigned a large project, I was relatively busy on a daily basis and I knew what I would need to get done each day in order to complete my project. I was still able to get involved in other undergraduate events outside of my role so I had a goo balance between the two.
I was given the responsibility of working on my own project whilst also having the help and guidance of my team and people from other areas of the business. I was able to arrange my own meetings and structure my daily timetable and also assist on other projects such as E.ON's electric vehicle strategy.
The skills developed during my internship was extremely relevant to my degree. In order to complete my project I had to understand key business and economic trends such as market share and the importance of innovation. This then became useful for modules such as International Business Strategy that I'm currently studying in my final year of International Business Management at university.
The Company
There was a friendly office environment. The colleagues around me were easy to communicate with.
The work placement was fairly well organised. When I started, all interns had a welcome day where we were able to ask any questions or raise any concerns. I had regular meetings with my line manager and regular intern events were organised so we were able to get involved on other aspects of the business outside of our roles.
The future prospects of the company are very appealing. E.ON offer graduate schemes in a range of different roles that cater towards different skill sets. After having a successful 10 week internship I applied for the grad scheme for strategic business management and was able to use the skills I acquired through my internship to secure a role on the grad scheme.
The Culture
There was a fairly good social scene among the interns and we often had lunch together and were involved in different undergraduate events. It was sometimes difficult to socialise outside of this as interns on different departments often had different work schedules. Some interns also made plans outside of work.
As my internship was based just outside of Nottingham I decided to live in Hucknall (a quiet town just outside Nottingham) as it was less than a 10 minute drive to work. The cost of living in this area was relatively cheap in comparison with the city centre however the town was fairly quiet. I often travelled into Nottingham city centre as there wasn't much to do in Hucknall. I would recommend staying in the city centre although it does take longer to travel to work.
Nightlife was virtually non-existent in Hucknall but it was much better in Nottingham. Notthingham has a variety of bars, restaurants and clubs, however it was fairly quiet whilst I was there over summer as the night scene is usually 西瓜视频s. There is still a fair amount to do in the Nottingham area
