    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Assisting candidates in their job search and presenting them to the job market, whilst generating talent pools and CVs for recruitment consultants with the aim of filling their live role. I interview candidates, check their right to work, generate a CV for them, and get them presented towards the job market in the form of speculative CVs sent to clients in emails or to my colleagues whose live roles match their experience.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I can now create the perfect CV, highlighting exactly what each client/organisation will want, based on the job description. I also understand what makes a candidate stand out in the current job market. This will be useful when searching for grad jobs after university. I now have strong organisation and prioritisation tricks that will work in my favour in my final year and in life generally.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Very much and quite quickly too. They trained us rigorously to begin with and let us get stuck in as soon as we felt comfortable. All of the interns were entrusted with sensitive and confidential information from early on in the placement.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • As I'm typically very self-sufficient, my manager has always encouraging my independence, whilst making sure to step in if needed. There are 3 other interns in the office and they have been a great support, as well as my more senior colleagues. I have never felt uncomfortable asking for help or speaking to anyone about anything. Even outside of my office, my colleagues in the region are all amicable and easy to converse with.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Every fourth Friday, my whole office goes out for paid drinks which is always great. For those who don't drink, there's no pressure. We each get a paid charity day to volunteer in our community which I'm looking forward to using. As I live in the same town as my uni, I am still very involved in my society and my colleagues are very support of my success outside of the company.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I don't think I could have picked a better placement for myself. I really enjoy the company culture, especially from what I've witnessed in my office. I haven't worked in an organisation like this before and I didn't expect to enjoy what I'm doing this much; I'm definitely leaning towards returning after uni but we'll see how I feel after final year!

  • 7. Would you recommend Hays to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Hays
  • Be honest on your CV; you can't hide from experienced recruiters! Highlight your customer service experience. Think about whether you actually enjoy working with people as you will be miserable if you don't. I was originally looking down the route of HR and Talent Acquisition and had only applied to internal recruitment. Hays was the first agency I applied to and I don't know if I could have made a better choice.
