Overview
Any time we have a new film, I watch it and take notes of any instances that would be important for my team to know for more efficient servicing. Checking spreadsheets and ticking through work processes when necessary, sending assets to vendors, interacting with international managers and teams to coordinate translations and orders. Aiding in delivery of different formats, ie. IMAX and Screen X. Ad hoc tasks from executives.
Skills
Learnt an incredible amount about a department I didn't know existed before I began. Developed many skills and knowledge. Opportunities to interact with other teams, territories, businesses, departments and vendors has grown knowledge base. Hard skills - Excel/Microsoft Office, SmartSheets, project management, finance (PO raising), localisation processes, Soft skills - communication, collaboration, leadership
Responsibilities
I've been entrusted with coordinator-level responsibilities of managing 6 territories with help and supervision. My team is incredibly supportive and understanding. They have encouraged me to take on more responsibility and ownership, and pushing me as far as I am comfortable. I manage many tasks and processes individually, as well as am given more with training.
Support & Guidance
An immense amount of support, specifically from my team, managers and department. My manager, the VP, is now a mentor for life, and they are all concerned with making sure I am always having fun, not feeling too overwhelmed and am comfortable throughout my internship. Early Careers and HR have been supportive coming to the latter half of my year here, as I am a graduate looking for a full-time position.
Culture
The culture overall at NBCUniversal is very supportive and kind, and it is a wonderful, accepting place to grow and feel seen. For networking, it is so easy to reach out to other people outside of your business who are open to talk and give advice for career and personal growth. It is a casual environment full of people who love their role and what the company does. It feels like a blossoming community of film and television lovers, who want to put out art we are proud of, and improve as a whole.
Your Impressions
I am enjoying it an extreme amount and am so sad at the prospect of leaving! For one of the biggest studios in the world, NBCU/ Universal Pictures truly feels like a small-tight knit group at times, and honestly feels like home. Everyone is so lovely, supportive and inclusive, and there are an abundance of opportunities to explore. I couldn't imagine a better internship or company to start my career at - and I hope I never have to leave!
Yes
Do your research about the company and our outputs - passion is important to the culture and hiring. If you are aware and passionate about media, and all the different aspects of our slate and productions, that will take you a long way! It is a massive organisation, and there are many different sub businesses and departments. Researching what group you are applying to, as they will work on completely different things, is key. Be personable, and be yourself. Uniqueness makes you stand out, but this is not a culture of climbing over others. NBCU's slogan is HERE YOU CAN... so remember that when applying!
