The Role
I have enjoyed my placement to its core. Out from the world of academics to the real world of energy industry was just marvelous. As my first technical job I really enjoyed this job and now I know where I am going in life.
E.ON UK is a company who values their employees and that is reflected in their employees performance, character and behavior. All people on site values and cares for each other. You will never have a feel that you are not a permanent employee of the company because from day one you will be part of big E.ON family where there is no discrimination.
I was given good support and guidance by the E.ON team all round my placement period. Right from the station manager to a fitter there were always people around me to help and guide whenever I need any help.
E.ON has got a structured program for the placement to get experience on all fields and objectives & milestones were set at the beginning of the placement. Due to this you I was always busy and due to my enthusiastic approach to cover more areas I never had a boring day at work.
During first few months of the placement I was given some space to get experience and use to the E.ON鈥檚 strategies and system. After this I have been handling real engineering & management work with high level of responsibilities. Once you have done the warm up you can鈥檛 cool down any more!
Because I have completed my master degree before I came to work for E.ON this is not very relevant to me. But if I want to do any further education the training and experience will definitely help me to think more in a practical way.
The Company
It is fantastic work atmosphere where people are very friendly and supportive. I have lots of opportunities to grow and develop myself.
It is very well organized. Objectives and milestones are set before the placement and I was jsut going through the process which I feel is very comfortable.
Even though there are limitations for the company to invest on me, I believe this is the maximum that I could expect from a company. E.ON is investing more for your training and development than they are paying you which means the company is investing more on you than a mid-level E.ON engineer which is unbelievable!.

I won't say placement is a shortcut to a job in this organization. For each role in this organization you need to meet the quality criteria and performance level which shows how keen is this company in selecting a new employee.
The Culture
It was good group of undergraduates who was very supportive to each other.
I would say the cost of living is quite normal provided you need to find the right place to live. It is bit difficult to commute to the work are because of limited public transport to the area. Car is a must requirement to work here.
I lived in Nottingham where the night life is quite good. Good pubs, international restaurants and shopping complex's all around here.
Team out, socializing events, birthday parties, leaving parties, welcome parties, undergraduates get together etc. are very common and so I would say you can easily maintain a social and work balance life.
