The Role
The internship was great fun. I really enjoyed it and felt I got a lot out of it. I learned how to put to use the things I had learned at university and I also made many new friends and business contacts as well.
My team were great and I felt that they valued my contributions. They didn't treat me any different and they helped me settle in and feel at ease all throughout the internship.
The support given by my supervisor was second to none. He helped me get started on things I wasn't sure on and gave me encouragement and assistance whenever I needed it. The rest of my team were really helpful as well - I couldn't have completed the internship without the great support that was given.
I was quite busy, but I wasn't too busy that I didn't have time to get lunch or anything like that. I sometimes took work home to do and this was fine with my manager, and sometimes stayed a bit late. It was however, on the whole very manageable.
I was given a fair amount of responsibility. Understandably near the start I wasn't responsible for much but by the end of the internship my team let me make quite a few key decisions which was great to experience.
The skills I have learned and developed during my time at BlackRock will definitely help me in the rest of my time at university and also in the future, when I hope to work in this area.
The Company
General atmosphere in the office was great. Enjoyable working environment and everyone I talked to was very friendly and willing to help.
It was a very well organised internship. I always knew what was happening and the induction at the start and the review of performance at the end was well communicated to all of the interns.
I felt the company invests quite a lot in training and development. I met with my supervisor on a regular basis to discuss points of improvement and also points of strength which was good to see if I was going in the right direction.
Sports and Social Club
Future employment prospects look great. BlackRock have a great graduate scheme every year and I hope to apply since I enjoyed the internship a lot.
The Culture
The social scene was great. We went out for lunch often and I got to know a lot of the interns very well. I made some great friends for life.
The cost of living was manageable for me, although for some it may be a bit too pricy since it is based in London.
The nightlife was great with a lot of variety in the pubs, bars and clubs that are available. They were quite close to the office as well so we could easily go after work to relax a little which was great.
There were a lot of opportunities to get involved outside of work. I found the networking opportunities the most useful. Meeting executives was a great way to build my professional network.
