The Role
I enjoyed experiencing the working environment as it is very different to university, therefore provides a great advantage before going into the world of work!
There are good colleagues and bad colleagues but the good ones who appreciate your work and are interested in your personal development make the time worthwhile.
My manager was always interested in my personal development, but a manager manages his work with his resources so it is difficult to align a 西瓜视频's degree specification with the work his/her own work scope. My manager did however help me see the benefits of my roles at the company and how they would come into use for the future.
There were busy days and not so busy days. Some days you are working on long term tasks feeling not so busy but other days work is presented to you with a short deadline which keeps it interesting and gives personal challenges.
Initially, not a great deal. It is difficult to give an undergraduate a great deal of responsibility during the early stages as they are yet to establish themselves. As the time went on, I was given more and more responsibilities and as the trust with my manger grew I was becoming involved in highly confidential work.
Looking back, I have developed many skills over the duration of the placement. Many of them will be useful for example presenting in contract review meetings to lead engineers has boosted by confidence. Other soft skills have also been picked up like learning how to conduct myself in an office environment which does not sound like much but will show contribution in the future.
The Company
The atmosphere was usually engaging, there was always something on whether it was work-related or personal, the engineers always had something to say!
The work placement was well structured as the roles were already set. Whether or not these roles were suited to the degree programmable is another question but they were interesting none-the-less and gave good experience.
The company did invest in me but more for my roles at the company not so much for my own personal development. It became important for to gain the most out of these experiences provided. When it came to going onto training courses I requested, my manager did allow it which was very disappointing.
The company itself is appealing however I would be looking to explore different areas not necessarily the same site as the placement. Nothing has been secured and I am not fast-tracked onto the graduate scheme which is very frustrating as this has happened for previous undergraduates.
The Culture
The social scene was good at work but I did tended not to social with them outside of work.
I lived at home so this was not as issue for me.
The nightlife in was fairly good but as I lived at home I did not tend to visit it that often.
There was weekly football which I got involved in, thoroughly enjoyable!
