Overview
Depending on the team you are joining for the duration of your placement you may be given daily, monthly, or annual tasks or you may also join project teams and work on specific projects. I have had experiences where I've worked on daily, monthly, and annual tasks. You will have responsibilities and deadlines that will be set for these responsibilities contributing to the firms activities
Skills
I was able to develop my communication skills in particular due to working remotely having to find other ways to reach out to colleagues. I was also able to develop key team-working skills. We were also given financial industry training prior to starting to help develop our industry knowledge and were presented with opportunities to develop this further throughout the placement
Responsibilities
Yes I was responsible for several annual tasks that my team were undertaking that contributed to the teams efforts. This provided me with exposure to work with other regions the business was also operating in providing me with greater learning opportunities about the firm and industry globally. You were also responsible for your own networking and career development during your time at the firm and had to present your internship experience to senior members
Support & Guidance
You are assigned both a manager and a buddy to ensure that you have two points of contact whilst you are settling in and getting to know your team. My team in particular were very supportive and I could reach out to any of them should I need support and/or guidance on a task. HR are also there to support you through your placement should you have any queries or issues you run into
Culture
It was a very pleasant atmosphere to work and culture is a very important aspect that every employee obtains. It is about doing the right thing and putting the customers needs first but at the same time caring about employees welfare and mental health and committing to diversity and inclusion. There were many committees available to join to get involved in wider events and social activities. Every year a charity is picked for raising money
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the firm. My team were all very welcoming and supportive throughout the 13 weeks and my manager was great at meeting my work needs providing the correct level of responsibilities and projects to be involved in. I felt like I fitted right in with the company culture with plenty of opportunities to network with wider colleagues in the finance division. This internship exceeded my expectations despite being virtual
Yes
Apply early and research the company culture before any interviews or assessment centers as this is something that the company highly values. Make sure to make yourself stand out whilst also being a team player in assessment centers taking great care not to overpower anyone. Morgan Stanley provide you with all the materials you will need prior to day one so that you feel more confident when you start. Be sure to network too
