Overview
I was working within the Finance Division. This involved looking after the books. In particular, I was looking after employee pays and different transactions the firm made. I would have daily tasks of ensuring all the transactions that were made were uploaded to the general ledger. I got to work with many different employees and was involved in vendor meetings.
Skills
I have improved my excel skills & overall technology skills. I have also improved my confidence as you get to interact with many employees. I have learnt how to deal with multiple tasks & prioritise which jobs are more urgent.
Responsibilities
I was given a lot of responsibility - much more than I anticipated. This was daunting at first however, I wouldn鈥檛 have changed it. It made me ensure all the work I produced was excellent and showed that the firm trusted me and wanted me to really get a feel for what it would be like working there full time. I really appreciated this.
Support & Guidance
I was given huge amounts of support from my manager and wider team. Despite being online due to the pandemic, I spoke to at least one person every day and it would have been rare to not have a zoom meeting one day. This really gave me a feel for the firm culture as I was really supported.
Culture
Morgan Stanley鈥檚 culture really is amazing. I didn鈥檛 think I would have experienced it as much as I did. Everyone at the firm strongly resonates with each core value. Everyone was so welcoming and always able to give a helping hand.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship. It exceeded my expectations and I would happily do it all over again! I would recommend this internship to anyone.
Yes
I would say to be confident & be yourself. Make sure to be enthusiastic and show that you care about the firm and the work. The people really do make Morgan Stanley such a great firm so if you resonate with the core values and are friendly and kind, then you would be a great fit in the firm.
