Overview
My role primarily consists of work shadowing and networking across the teams within Security Settlement Operations. My work is project based and is driven by what new procedures the team need. This has consisted of creating spreadsheets with market cut off and escalation information and also devising new start procedure documents.
Skills
In this role I have developed my people skills, communication skills and excel competence. I have also increased my experience in presenting and speaking in front of large groups.
Responsibilities
Unfortunately I was not given a lot of responsibility.
Support & Guidance
Overall the level of support throughout the internship was high. My manager and mentor always had time for me regardless of how busy they were.
Culture
Overall the company culture was very welcoming. There were a good number of social events organized for the interns. Furthermore, there was volunteering organized and many different talks and events that were open for interns. When not working I made the most of attending speaker sessions and networking events to meet as many new people at the firm in order to understand more about the work that goes on at Morgan Stanley.
Your Impressions
Overall I have enjoyed my internship. The social aspect was great and I made many friends during the programme. In that sense the internship exceeded my expectations. In terms of the company culture, as an intern I felt very welcomed. In terms of the work, I was expecting a heavier workload and more responsibility. Despite this I would definitely go back.
