Overview
My insight days consisted of department (development) meetings, completing tasks related to live valuation projects and networking with the team and the wider office. On day 4, I had a site visit, where my mentor and [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] took me to see the VIADUX development in Manchester.
Skills
I have learnt the method of creating a valuation report, how to analyse comparable properties for a valuation, and how to measure sites for valuations and sketch floorplans.
Business Insight
It was a very engaging and inspiring experience, where each day I learnt something new, not only within development but also in the wider property industry. I experienced segments of valuation, property management, strategic planning, agency and residential development sales. This has deepened my interest in the real estate business. I also learnt a lot about the RICS and the journey to becoming a chartered surveyor, including the APC.
Culture
The company culture was great, all of the team members were approachable and friendly, happy to answer any questions that I had about the company, the industry and their experience. I felt very welcomed.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed the insight, as I got to experience various aspects of the real estate industry, get hands on experience within the corporate environment, but all get to know each of the team members through social activities and networking.

Speak to current employees or those that have partaken in Savills' insight or internship schemes, do your research around the real estate industry, be up to date with key trends, and build your interest by listening to property podcasts, reading articles and networking with professionals, asking them for advice. Look for opportunities to go on site visits and attend talks by professionals in the industry also.
