    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • We had introductions to the various teams at Savills as well as calls with directors and senior team members to ask more about roles and the company. Mentors also set up coffee chats with other teams in the office. Work included day to day tasks, such as reading reports, writing summaries, work on excel and admin work. Also involved site visits to commercial and residential properties on the Savills portfolio and writing our experiences about the visits.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • This experience has allowed me to refine many of my existing skills as well as gain new skills too. Working in a corporate environment has allowed me to improve my communication skills, this was done through communicating with the team and fellow interns via email, speaking to property brokers on the phone about listed properties as well as interacting with team members on a day to day basis. I have also improved my attention to detail while working on excel spreadsheets.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • The whole programme was really informative. This is because our individual teams as well as HR made an effort to schedule calls and coffee chats with other teams. This enabled us to learn more about the business as well as potential career opportunities in different teams. Learning about the work different teams undertake as well as their days to day activities allows you to understand whether you see yourself in that role in the future.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company鈥檚 culture is very inclusive and friendly. They made sure that all the interns felt welcome and included. Although we were only there for a week, we felt like we were part of the team, the interns were taken out by the team whenever they were going, whether this was forgoing out for lunch, drinks or on site visits. This demonstrated the amazing atmosphere of the team as well as the overall company.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I throughly enjoyed the insight experience, this is because the work was really varied and the company and team were very inclusive and friendly. As interns we were given the opportunity to take part in work the team was doing as well as calls that HR organised about other teams. This allowed us to gain a holistic understanding of how the firm as well as different teams operate. It also allowed us to network with a range of different members of the firm.

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Savills
  • I would recommend others to research the company well. Understand the different teams and division in the firm, how they differ and how they interact. Also carry out your research using the company鈥檚 website as this will be the best source of information. In the interview ensure you answer the questions using the STAR technique as this will allow you to reflect on your previous experience and connect it to the values of the firm.
