Overview
As an intern, I was involved in the regular duties of the office from day one. I started my internship with a basic knowledge of the sustainable design sector, and I was given the opportunity to check previous projects of the company to become more familiar with the sector. I also was provided with training for thermal modelling, and given the change to develop a database of projects cost in collaboration with other members of the team.
Skills
Surely developing my skills was a fundamental aspect of this internship. As a 西瓜视频, it can be daunting to take a first internship in industry. However, I was provided with comprehensive training on how to use EDSL Tas, which I believe will be very helpful in the future. Additionally, I learnt how to work in an office environment, and how to adapt to a hybrid style of work, which is becoming more popular these days. I am totally satisfied with my learning experience during this internship.
Business Insight
Before I joined the industry, my knowledge of the sustainable design sector was very basic. I did not know much about all the roles available and the possibilities to develop a career in sustainability within the real state sector. Now that I have finished my internship, I have better idea of the paths that I can follow in order to find a job in sustainability, and also, how to work towards accreditation to secure better employment opportunities in the future.
Culture
If I had to define my Team with only one word, it would be "Diversity". From day one I realized the different backgrounds of the people working in the office, and everyone was very welcoming and open to talk about their experience at the company. Every other day, the team would also go out to share some time and drink something together, as well as taking walks and site visits to complement the experience. It was great to feel a welcoming atmosphere, it definitely made the settling process easier.
Your Impressions
I can say that I enjoyed my experience to the maximum expression. I had never worked in an office before, and I was afraid that it would take me longer than usual to get settled and make myself familiar with the job. Contrary to my beliefs, I found myself going through activities that were very related to my interest for engineering and sustainability, which also fuelled my passion for the sector, to continue my career in the future.
Yes
Do not feel afraid if your not sure about joining a real state company. There are plenty of different opportunities within the company, to fit a wide range of interest and backgrounds. I did not know much about my area of internship, and when I finished my summer placement, my understanding of the sector was completely broaden. You will never know what your real taste is unless you push yourself out there and give it a try. Working at Savills is an excellent way to figure out what career you really want to pursue.
