    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • A typical day involves completing tasks and pieces of work set by my mentor in each team, such as writing letters, spreadsheets, presentations etc. Intertwined with joining Zoom Calls with other summer interns in different offices and listening to departmental overviews given by managers and directors, these break the day up nicely and are insightful. I have also been on a handful of property and site viewings and visits.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have developed my networking skills, as I have been constantly talking to people, asking questions about their career and areas they work in. My digital skills have improved, particularly using Microsoft Excel, Co star, Pro maps etc. Also just the experience of being in the office has developed my professional skills and routine. My knowledge and understanding of Real Estate has extended hugely, as my academic background is not in this area. The only bit of feedback I would have is that if some of the online calls involved interactive tasks then I would have had the opportunity to develop teamwork skills a bit more.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • My mentors regularly said that the work and research that I had done for them would be useful when talking to clients etc. The tasks I have completed have on the whole been quite small and not taken more than a few hours, but this is understandable given I am only in each team for a week, so I think I have been given a fair amount of responsibility.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • On the first day I was welcomed to the team and shown around the office, I then completely all my mandatory online training. This was useful, but I felt it was missing how to use key software such as pro maps and co star. In the different teams, tasks were always explained clearly to me and there was always someone to ask if I had a problem. I did however feel that often teams were scrabbling around finding things for me to do, and that I was a bit of an inconvenience and one team weren't even expecting me on the Monday morning! So maybe a bit more prep as to our schedule throughout the week would've been more helpful.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Very Positive. Everyone in the office was very friendly and wanted to ask who I was and introduce themselves. Lots of people eat lunch together in the kitchen which is very social. Working hours seem reasonably flexible and no body is clock watching. The general chat just brings a more human feel to it. Everyone still works hard and cracks on when they need to though

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I did enjoy my placement. While it is not an area I knew much about before, I have found most of the learning and work I have done interesting and rewarding. It has given me lots to talk about and show in future interviews and has given me a first taste of office culture.

  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Savills
  • Try and apply for a set placement in one team so you can really get stuck into one area of the industry. Then just the usual networking stuff, ask questions, make the most of it, try and go on a site visit etc
